Building with Rammed Earth at the Center of Cuba

Join us to learn the technique of rammed earth and plaster by intervening and transforming an abandoned tobacco house next to the Zaza River, in the central region of the island of Cuba. This is a workshop for all interested professionals, students and practitioners.

It will be taught by Earthman: Hanno Burtscher, its founder and his collaborators Carlos Cobarrubias and Andrej Marincovic. Born in the landscapes of Vorarlberg, Austria, Earthman has achieved a formidable presence in the global field of rammed earth construction.

The workshop is organized by Infraestudio and Taller Chullima. Infraestudio is an art and architecture practice based in Havana since 2016, founded by Anadis González and Fernando Martirena. Taller Chullima is a non-profit Cultural Project, founded in Havana in January 2017 as part of the initiatives of the artist Wilfredo Prieto for creating spaces for exchange and collaboration.

Participation in the workshop is free of cost.

The basic living cost is 3300CUP/15USD for accommodation at the Plaza Hotel in Santi Spíritu, the closest city, but you can also bring your tent and if you don't have one we will arrange one for you. The estimated cost of food and transportation from the town to the site is 30 USD/day. We can help to organize accommodation, meals and transportation for those who request it by writing to us before November 20th. Apply Now!
